In ‘Lucky Saves Christmas’ find out what happens when Santa and his sleigh land on Lucky’s roof. With ten tired reindeer and a sleigh that won’t move, can they deliver the children’s presents in time?
It’s Christmas Eve and Lucky is digging into his mince pie and milk, looking forward to the big day tomorrow. Presents are wrapped beautifully and are sitting beneath the colourful Christmas tree.
He watches the fairy lights twinkle as he munches away. The doorbell rings and Lucky jumps up with excitement. ‘The carollers are here’ he barks, excited to hear some of his favourite Christmas songs.
A group of boys and girls in woolly hats, scarves and gloves stand on his doorstep singing Away in a Manger. His mum gives the carollers some mince pies and wishes them a Merry Christmas.
As darkness settles over their street, Lucky puts on his Christmas pyjamas and gets into bed. His mum reads him his favourite Christmas story and he soon drifts off, dreaming about what presents he will get tomorrow.
As he starts to fall asleep, he is woken with a loud thump. No way, could it be…Santa’s sleigh? Lucky jumps from his bed and sticks his head out of his bedroom window.
He hears a deep voice shout, ‘Help me, I’m stuck!’ Within moments, Lucky is outside his house and can’t believe what he sees.
On the roof is the biggest sleigh he’s ever seen, lots of reindeer and a very large bottom sticking out of the chimney!
Lucky climbs the drainpipe and when he reaches the roof, he sees that the sleigh is filled with presents, ready to be delivered to children all over the world.
‘Santa has a busy night ahead of him’ Lucky thinks. ‘I’d better pull him out of the chimney!’
Lucky wraps his paws around Santa’s ankles and starts to yank, hoping to pull him out of the chimney. Santa doesn’t budge.
While Lucky thinks of what to do, a voice from behind him says, ‘I can help.’ He turns around to see a large red nose and a mouth beneath smiling at him.
‘I’m Rudolph, nice to meet you. Shall we try to save the big guy?’ Lucky nods in disbelief.
Lucky and Rudolph yank once, twice, three times, until with a final pull, Santa is free! Lucky falls backwards and Rudolph takes a tumble too.
‘Ho, Ho Ho, Lucky you brilliant dog, thank you so much for freeing me from your chimney. I can deliver more presents to all the boys and girls now.’ Santa looks at his watch. ‘Oh I better get going, time is ticking! Come on Rudolph!’
Rudolph gets back to his feet and hobbles to the front of the sleigh to take off once more. The other reindeer sleepily get back on their feet, having enjoyed their nap while Santa was stuck.
When they try to set off, there is another thud. The sleigh won’t move. Rudolph’s foot is too sore and the rest of the reindeer are too tired to fly!
Santa cries, ‘Oh no, what am I going to do!’ I can’t leave hundreds of children without presents this year!’ Lucky has an idea.
‘My mum’s campervan has plenty of room for presents and we could deliver to lots of houses in that.'
‘What a wonderful idea!’ Santa cries. ‘I’ve never been in a campervan before.’ Lucky, Santa and the reindeer fill the campervan full of presents and before long, they are off!
As they drive down the dark roads lit by the Christmas lights twinkling on houses and trees, Lucky can’t believe his eyes as the campervan starts to rise from the road, higher and higher until it is flying over houses, trees and clouds.
‘We’ll get deliveries done faster this way,’ Santa says.
‘This is the best Christmas ever!’ thinks Lucky, ‘and it’s not even Christmas Day yet!’
The next morning, as Lucky opens his presents, his mum asks, ‘I found this hat in the campervan. I wonder whose it is.'
Lucky smiles, knowing exactly whose it is, and opens another present.
